Category: Language and Culture
Since we have so many people from different cultures who speak different languages, I want to know how to you say PEACE and how to you say "I LOVE YOU" in your language.
Here is my take: Greek - IRINI (peace), S' AGAPO (I love you). Dutch - FREDE (peace), IK HOU VAN JOU (I love you), Hebrew - SHALOM (peace), ANI OHEVET OTCHA (I love you). Star
Love in German: Liebe. And peace, Frieden. But I think peace sounds way better.
in afrikaans .. peace, vrede, i love you, well ... actually, there is more than one way to say it, dependent on how you mean it. you can say, as in duch, Ek hou van jou, which means more .. I like you, or you can say, ek is lief vir jou, which does mean I love you but not in the deepest sense, more like, love ya, if that makes sense. if you wanted to say i love you as to a partner, special person in your life .. you would say, Ek het jou lief.
Lol, Sugarbaby, that sounds similar to "ich hab dich lieb" in German!! But to really say I love you to a partner: "Ich liebe dich".
i love you in spanish, te amo, and peace in spanish, paus.
I love you in Chinese "wo ai nee", and peace "he ping"
I love you in Malay "Aku cinta kau" peace "damai" or "aman"
Guys this is soooo cool! Thanks for replying. I hope more reply and add more languages. Raining how would you say "Peace" and "I love you" in Indonesian? Star
Okay guys, I'll try denish now, but I'm not sure how it's written. I love you is "A elske Daie". Lol.
Actually, Love4All, peace in Spanish is paz. Hope you don't mind, just that's actually the correct way to spell it. *smiles*

this is a fun website that has peace and I love you in many different languages, as well as other expressions. http://www.elite.net/~runner/jennifers/links.htm
Well Danish, with correct spelling is "jeg elsker dig" and I think peace is "fred", Icelandic is very similar "eg elska thig" and "fridur" (after all we were practically a Danish colony for 800 years and the languages are very related).
Finnish it is "mina rakkastan sinua" <grin> and I have no idea what the word for peace is but I know "sina olet koira" means "you are a dog" <grin>
Ah, okay, then my houseparent told me nonsense, sorry.
This is very cool. Come on guys and gals, I know there are more of you out there who speak different languages. Let's make this a long list of peace and love. Star
in french, peace is la paix. I love you is je t'adore.
or je t'aime
Megan you took the words out of my mouth LOL! je t'aime sounds so much more romantic! By the way, kiitos wildbrew for your input of finnish. Star
Well if you really say I love you to a family member or a friend in German then you say "ich lieb' dich" or "ich hab' dich lieb", so I think "ich liebe dich" is more romantic, too.
in japanese i love you is ai shi te ru, peace is hei wa. in korean i love you is saa rang hae yo. in cantonese i love you is ngor oi nlay, peace is woh peng. smiles.
star this is a really good idea, smiling
Unfortunately I can't add to the list as I am linguistically deprived, I speak only English. But this is such a great idea, thanks Star for starting it.
